DIxon Duchesses Defeated

Dixon Duchesses and Sterling Golden Warriors faced off at Emma Hubbs Tennis Court in Dixon on Thursday, October 1st in a match that left Dixon defeated 5-1. 

When asked about her thoughts on the game, head coach Kelly Reynolds of Sterling, said “I think all players played great. We played at our home court a few weeks ago and we beat them 3-2. It was a little bit of a different lineup today, but the matches were very good, for everybody, especially in this cold weather.” 

Coach Reynolds also mentioned that they came into the season thinking it was a “rebuilding” year for the team. Out of eight of Sterling’s top players last year, six were seniors who have now graduated. Coach Reynolds stated “we came into this year, you know, with not an awful lot of expectations but they've been amazing. They've definitely risen to the occasion.” 

Dixon’s head coach Jaimie Brigl saw this game as a learning opportunity for the team and kept a positive attitude towards the match. Coach Brigl stated, “It was quite the match. We had a good evening. I thought it was lots of fun, saw lots of positive things, and got some feedback for what we need to keep working on to keep growing and moving forward.” 

Coach Brigl went on to say “I thought our number two doubles teams, at times, played really really good points. We just gotta keep working on their consistency and eliminating unforced errors.”

Regarding the final match of the night, Coach Brigl said “Our grand finale for the evening, that number two singles. You know both kids you gotta give a lot of credit to. They both had a lot of heart and fight, super proud of Taylor Harrison (Dixon) for not giving up, to fighting to the end forcing that tiebreaker in that last set and you know that's why you play, you don't know the outcome you keep fighting and kudos to Sterling for pulling it off.”
